Pharmacokinetic Properties of Carbamazepine Controlled Release Formulation (Carmine CR(r))

Abstract

|
The steady-state plasma carbamazepine concentrations following the single dose oral administration of carbamazepine controlled release formulation (CBZ-CR, Czrmine CR(r)) as well as regular carbamazepine preparation (CBZ, Carmine(r)) were
measured
in 10
stable epileptic subjects in cross-over clinical trials. Analysis of pharmacokinetic parameters revealed that the bioavailability of CBZ-CR was not significantly decreased as compared to that of CBZ, although individual differences did exist.
Both
percent fluctuation and fluctuation index were significantly lower in CBZ-CR, demonstraing more stable and less fluctuating diurnal plasma concentration. The results indicate that CBZ-CR may provide improved clinical utility in the CBZ treatment
of
epilepsy.
